Yan Pigeon

Born in Quebec City in 1976, Yan Pigeon is a multidisciplinary artist whose creativity extends far beyond the canvas. Painting, airbrushing, spray paint, large-scale murals, sculpture, and textured effects all come together in a practice driven by a constant desire to explore new mediums and push the boundaries of his craft.

After studying Visual Arts at Collège François-Xavier Garneau, Yan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Université Laval in 2002. Alongside his academic training, he taught himself the art of airbrushing, developing a technique that would become an important part of his artistic signature.

Art Without Boundaries

Where Surrealism, Street Art and Texture Meet

Yan’s artistic universe draws inspiration from a wide range of powerful influences. The surrealist worlds of Salvador Dalí and René Magritte, along with the dark and fantastical imagery of H.R. Giger, have helped shape an approach where imagination meets realism and traditional techniques collide with a distinctly contemporary aesthetic.

From acrylic painting on canvas to spray paint techniques inspired by graffiti and street art, Yan continuously adapts his artistic language. His versatility has led him from studio paintings to monumental murals, transforming virtually any surface into a new space for creative expression.

Creating the Illusion of Reality

His work also takes on a sculptural and hyperrealistic dimension. Using materials such as plaster, polymer, and mortar, Yan transforms surfaces to recreate the appearance and texture of stone, brick, concrete, and walls weathered by time.

Patinas, textures, colours, and aging effects have become an integral part of his artistic language. It is a distinctive approach where painting, sculpture, and design come together, shaped by more than two decades of experimentation and driven by one constant desire: to transform the ordinary into something impossible to ignore.
